Charleston Captured in Red Room Studio Style
as seen in the Lowcountry Wedding & Style Magazine
I received a call about a year ago from Mrs. Barbara Claypoole, who was very excited that her daughter’s boyfriend was about to propose. Without her daughter knowing that she would soon be engaged, Mrs. Claypoole contacted me about photographing her daughter’s wedding and bridal portraits. She said that Pringle had seen my work before and loved my style.
Soon, I sat down with Pringle and Mrs. Claypoole to go over my photographic services. I was able to help guide them through some of the necessary planning steps and come up with a suitable time schedule, as well as, create a special package that would fulfill their needs and fit into their budget.
I started shooting at 44 Queen Street where the bridesmaids and groomsmen were getting ready. Since there was not much time following the ceremony to get bridal shots of the wedding party, I took advantage of the time prior to capture as many portraits as possible. This allowed the wedding party to not feel rushed or pressured.
The ceremony was held at the French Huguenot Church on Church Street. Many churches have restrictions on photography during the ceremony, but I was able to shoot from the balcony with my telescopic lens, which gave me a unique angle to capture the little details. Once the ceremony was completed and we took some group pictures with the newly married couple, a 3 piece band met us in front of the church and lead the procession to the Confederate House while playing “When the Saints Come Marching In”.
Once at the Confederate house, the bride and groom were introduced to all of their guests that were already grazing on the magnificent spread. They proceeded right into their first dance with their loved ones watching. I intensely enjoy my job and pride myself on being able to anticipate the action that will make the perfect picture. From the dances and cake to the garter and flowers, I assisted Pringle and Kenlind through their wedding reception making sure that they have plenty of time for friends, family and most of all themselves. I make sure to capture the little details that are planned out perfectly, the candid's of the family and friends, as well as, my lengthy list of “must have” pictures of people and groups. As the evening came to a close and the crowd has thinned, Pringle and Kenlind danced to “At Last” while their closest friends and family showered them with bubbles on the dance floor and continued outside into their black cab.
While being involved in weddings for the past 12 years, I have learned that anything can happen even with the best laid plans, but that is what makes it your wedding. Pictures are very important to any wedding, but being able to relax and enjoy all of your hard work and planning is very important in capturing the best quality pictures that you’ll cherish for many years to come.
